SSI Diver Career
Diver Evolution
"Beginning with the End in Mind"
Diving is a challenging activity because the aquatic environment presents challenges that, without preparation, prove difficult to overcome and dangerous to face.
Exploring a diving career, you can start at the Open Water level and improve your skills through Advanced Open Water Diver training.
On your path of learning and overcoming challenges, you can always optionally pursue specialties that will give you more knowledge and the ability to face new challenges.
With the proper training and education, it is possible to combine experience with specialized knowledge, overcoming the challenges that arise in the most varied environments, whether it's diving deeper, diving in poor visibility, using breathing mixtures, or even becoming more competent at navigating.
Among the various specialty trainings, some are particularly important for divers who want to reach the highest levels of certification:
Nitrox - This will allow you to explore depths between 20 and 40 meters more safely with oxygen-enriched air. This course is a prerequisite for any SSI XR course. Night & Limited Visibility - This course will prepare you to perform dives in low visibility conditions, very typical in Portugal, and to make night dives safer.
Deep Diving - Provides the foundation for performing deeper recreational dives more efficiently and safely. This course is a prerequisite for any SSI XR course.
DPV - You will gain the knowledge to use underwater propulsion vehicles and access their rental at dive centers or liveaboards.
If you aspire to reach the highest level of recreational diving, you can progress in your career and training until you reach the Divemaster level, the most prestigious level for recreational divers and the first step towards your eventual professional career!
To reach Divemaster you will first have to become a rescue diver by taking the Rescue Diver course.
But note that to be a rescue diver you will obviously need to know how to provide basic life support and oxygen administration, which you can learn by taking the React Right course.
Progress according to a Do It Right (DIR) philosophy!
DIR is a holistic approach to scuba diving that encompasses several essential elements, including fundamental diving skills, standardization of procedures, teamwork, physical conditioning, and simplified and minimalist equipment setups.
